Welcome to Field Education at Deakin Social Work. Field Education has been referred to as the signature pedagogy in Social Work education. 

While there's been much debate around such claims, both in Australia and internationally, there is nevertheless agreement within the profession that Field Education is a critical component of becoming a Social Worker. 

A key difference between Field Education and work experience is the central role of professional supervision for student learning. 
It's not sufficient for students just to have opportunities to develop and demonstrate their skills in a placement setting. 
Social Workers also need to be able to critically reflect on how they are practicing, and supervision is central to this. 
Field Education involves partnerships between health and community service providers and education providers. 
It's also about the people, students and supervisors, and the broader group of people in each organization who facilitate and support them. 

Being involved in Field Education involves a significant commitment to students and the Social Work profession. 
The online resources offered on this website have been designed to support supervisors in this important role.
